Role: Network Engineer IV – Optical / DWDM Network Location: Seattle, WA – Onsite Duration: 9 Months
Job Summary We are looking for a Network Engineer IV with strong hands-on experience supporting DWDM/optical networking environments. This person will help design, deploy, scale, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot optical network infrastructure supporting a large global network. The ideal candidate will have experience with major DWDM platforms, optical network planning/modeling, large-scale Metro and Long-Haul DWDM deployments, and a solid understanding of IP networking.
Key Responsibilities
Design optical solutions and provide hands-on support for the deployment and rollout of large-scale DWDM networks.
Support optical network scaling activities, including fiber quality reviews, cutsheets, and configuration development.
Define and configure management solutions for remote monitoring and visibility of optical network devices.
Collaborate with field technicians, fiber teams, and other networking teams to ensure optical infrastructure is deployed on schedule.
Review and implement changes to optical systems using manual CLI configuration and/or automated scripts.
Ensure optical network deployment activities follow established network standards and operational procedures.
Execute implementation activities while maintaining high standards for network quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
Troubleshoot complex optical network issues and develop solutions to improve deployment speed, reliability, and scalability.
Work with cross-functional teams to support the successful rollout and ongoing operation of optical infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience working with major DWDM platforms.
3+ years of experience with optical network planning, modeling tools, and hands-on implementation.
Experience deploying and rolling out large-scale DWDM networks in both Metro and Long-Haul environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals and routing protocols.
Knowledge of Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing topologies.
Ability to script or program in a language such as Python, Perl, or similar.
Strong optical network design, planning, and implementation experience.
Experience providing technical leadership or coordinating field technicians.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
