About the Role
Corporate Vendor Management (CVM) is responsible for leading the firm-wide, end-to-end vendor management process to maximize third-party performance, value, and regulatory compliance. The team oversees sourcing, onboarding, risk assessment, monitoring, and offboarding of third-party vendors.
As a Senior Manager on the Risk & Controls team, you will enhance and execute third-party risk management framework. You will assess and oversee vendor risk using a comprehensive, risk-based approach that ensures compliance, mitigates vendor-related threats, and supports business partners across the firm. This role requires strong expertise in risk management, vendor governance, and regulatory compliance—ideally within a highly regulated financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities
Third-Party Risk Management & Oversight
  • Execute and enhance a robust third-party risk management framework to assess, monitor, and mitigate vendor risks.
  • Conduct risk assessments using consistent methodologies, evaluating vendors on criticality, compliance, cybersecurity, operational resilience, and financial stability.
  • Ensure thorough due diligence is completed prior to contract execution and throughout vendor lifecycle activities.
  • Develop and implement mitigation strategies for high-risk vendors.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Legal, Cybersecurity, Compliance, Finance, and other internal teams to ensure a holistic risk approach.
  • Identify obstacles to contracting or maintaining vendor relationships and support business partners in resolving issues.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure all vendor risk activities align with Schwab policies, industry regulations, and regulatory expectations.
  • Stay current on evolving third-party risk regulatory landscapes and recommend enhancements to policies and procedures.
  • Support Internal Audit Reviews and Regulatory Examinations with data and subject-matter expertise.
Reporting, Technology, & Process Improvement
  • Deliver regular vendor risk reporting and escalate critical risks to leadership as needed.
  • Leverage third-party risk management tools and drive automation and process efficiencies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of risk reporting, assessment practices, and operational workflows.
Training, Leadership & Thought Expertise
  • Develop and deliver risk training sessions (brown bags and quarterly awareness meetings).
  • Serve as an advisor and mentor to peers by applying broad expertise in risk management.
  • Manage complex analyses requiring evaluation of diverse tangible and intangible factors.

Qualifications
Required
  • 7+ years of professional experience in risk management, vendor management, or internal audit.
  • 2+ years in a highly regulated financial services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of risk frameworks, vendor governance, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently with high attention to detail and measurable results.
  • Experience navigating ambiguity and implementing new requirements in dynamic environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficiency with third-party risk management tools and technology.
Preferred
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CTPRP, CRVPM).
  • Knowledge of emerging vendor risks (AI ethics, ESG, geopolitical risks, digital assets).
  • Understanding of internal controls, financial/banking regulations, operational or vendor risk assessments.
  • Experience with SAP Ariba (Cloud) is a plus.
