Float Phlebotomist I

Duration: 3+ Months
Location: 3500 Old Washington Rd, Suite 201, Waldorf, MD 20601
Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (8-hour shift scheduled within these hours)

Job Summary

We are seeking a Float Phlebotomist I with at least 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience in a fast-paced laboratory, patient service center (PSC), or hospital setting. This position will float between office and PSC locations, providing high-quality specimen collection and patient care.

Work Environment

  • Float between office and Patient Service Center (PSC) locations.
  • PSC volume: 60–90 patients per day.
  • Daily blood draws: Varies.
  • Work independently as well as with a team.
  • 1–2 weeks of training provided at the start of the assignment.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect blood and other specimens following established procedures.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens for transport.
  • Verify physician orders and match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes.
  • Maintain specimen integrity by following proper storage and transportation guidelines.
  • Update patient information accurately and explain collection procedures professionally.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, decontamination, and documentation as required.
  • Follow OSHA, laboratory safety, and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Provide excellent patient service while working in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience in a hospital, laboratory, or high-volume PSC.
  • Experience performing venipuncture with both straight and butterfly needles.
  • Knowledge of specimen processing, labeling, centrifuging, and packaging.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid state phlebotomy certification (if required by state regulations).
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule within the 6:00 AM–6:00 PM operating hours and travel between assigned locations.
