About the Team & Role

The Data Center Site Development team designs, builds, leases, and operates highly innovative and efficient data centers. The Water Team, sitting within Site Development, manages cross-functional water program strategy and execution across a large and growing global data center portfolio during pre-development, construction, and operations phases.

This role reports directly to the Water Program Team Manager and provides critical coverage to maintain the continuity of water program operations, utility relationships, compliance oversight, and construction milestones across the fleet.

Key Responsibilities & Day-to-Day

  • Strategic Roadmap: Define and own the multi-year water program roadmap, aligning operations with company growth targets and sustainability goals.

  • Compliance Framework: Own and drive the fleet-wide water/wastewater compliance framework (tool development, process governance, audit readiness). Oversee compliance with water withdrawal agreements and wastewater discharge requirements.

  • Utility & Infrastructure Management: Manage utility engagement strategy during construction and operations (handling technical, invoicing, and operational issues). Own the end-to-end flow meter program strategy (account setup, mapping, payments, commissioning).

  • Engineering & Construction: Lead engineering design reviews, oversee onsite/offsite infrastructure projects (schedule, scope, budget), and drive construction quality standards for wet utility infrastructure.

  • Data & Risk Governance: Establish a data governance framework for water/wastewater monitoring and analysis using business intelligence tools. Develop and maintain the Water Mitigation Plan and Emergency Operating Procedures.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Lead programmatic initiatives (sustainability, water-saving efforts, regulatory research) by collaborating closely with Strategy, Finance, Sustainability, Design, Engineering, Construction, and Operations teams.

Candidate Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Experience: 12+ years of progressive professional experience in water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including senior or lead-level roles.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • Technical Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of industrial water use, wastewater discharge, water efficiency techniques, and water policy/permitting within the United States.

  • Project Management: Demonstrated experience with permitting and construction management for large-scale water infrastructure projects.

  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders without direct authority in a highly matrixed environment.

  • Logistics: Absolute willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 50%.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • Advanced technical degree (M.S. or Ph.D. in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field).

  • Professional Civil Engineer (PE) License.

  • Direct experience with NPDES and industrial pre-treatment permits, and working directly with major U.S. water/wastewater utilities.

  • Experience with water/wastewater infrastructure construction and operations specifically for hyperscale data centers.
