Location: Remote
Duration: 6+ months
Job Description:
Motion design falls under product design:
- Design products—systematically, interactively, visually—with pixel-level precision
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product management, and research to develop impactful, user-centric, and data-informed solutions
- Collaborate with and manage feedback from stakeholders across the company
- Work alongside engineers throughout the implementation and quality assurance phases
- Uphold and inspire a high level of design execution and diverse creative explorations across the team
- Make selfless design decisions for the betterment of company
Specific to motion design:
- Design motion behaviors and interaction transitions that clarify hierarchy, state changes, system feedback, and overall product usability
- Create high-quality motion studies, prototypes, and production-ready specs to communicate timing, easing, choreography, and interaction intent to cross-functional partners
- Partner closely with engineering to ensure motion is implemented with craft, performance, and fidelity, and that interactions feel polished across platforms and devices
- Define and evolve motion principles, patterns, and guidelines that scale within the product design system
- Use motion strategically to enhance comprehension, delight, and continuity, while maintaining accessibility and avoiding unnecessary distraction
- Contribute to end-to-end product experiences through animation and interaction design, including onboarding, feedback states, transitions, empty states, and moments of delight
- Advocate for motion as a functional part of the user experience, not just a visual layer, grounding decisions in user needs, product goals, and platform constraints
- Refine motion details through iteration and QA, ensuring animation quality, consistency, and performance in the shipped product
Skills:
- Proven track record envisioning, building, and iterating on digital products in close partnership with product management and engineering
- Strong portfolio that demonstrates outstanding design skills (refined aesthetic sensibilities and high quality craft are a must, prototyping is a plus) and product thinking informed by qualitative and quantitative insights
- Great communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate your design decisions and the problems they’re solving
- Attention to detail and a sense of pride and ownership over the quality of the product
- Solid understanding of layout, typography, color, and other graphic design principles
- Ability to work within and extend a design system.
- Experience working in design systems and/or product redesigns is a plus
- Team player with strong collaboration skills and ability bring cross-functional partners along in the journey
- High level of self-awareness with a growth mindset
Specific to motion design:
- Strong motion design craft, with demonstrated expertise in timing, easing, choreography, spatial relationships, and animation principles for digital products
- Portfolio showing motion as part of product UX, including interaction design, transitions, feedback states, and prototypes that improve usability and experience quality
- Ability to prototype motion and interaction concepts in tools such as After Effects, Figma, Principle, ProtoPie, Rive, or similar workflows
- Experience translating motion concepts into implementable specifications and partnering with engineers to bring them to life with high fidelity
- Understanding of motion systems and scalable interaction patterns, with the ability to create reusable guidance for product teams
- Sensitivity to performance, accessibility, and platform conventions when designing animation for real product environments
- Strong systems thinking, with the ability to use motion consistently across flows, states, and surfaces rather than treating it as one-off animation
- Ability to balance expression and restraint, knowing when motion should delight, when it should guide, and when it should stay out of the way
