Job Summary:
- The Capital Project Portfolio Manager is responsible for the effective management and oversight of a portfolio of capital projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and successful delivery within budget and schedule. This role encompasses the entire project lifecycle, from initial intake and prioritization to project execution, financial management, and performance reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management skills, financial acumen, excellent communication abilities, and a proven track record of managing complex portfolios.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Portfolio Management:
- Manage a portfolio of capital projects from intake through closure, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and objectives.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive portfolio roadmap, incorporating project prioritization, resource allocation, and dependency management.
- Establish and maintain portfolio governance processes, standards, and tools.
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the health of the portfolio and progress towards goals.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to provide real-time visibility into portfolio performance.
- Manage a repository of project and portfolio data including timelines, progress, utilization of resources and budget
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and help coordinate mitigation strategies
- Provide guidance and support to project teams on the business and engineering side to ensure adherence to governance routines and best practices.
- Conduct regular project reviews to assess project health, identify areas for improvement, and ensure timely escalation of issues.
- Develop and manage the overall Capex portfolio budget, ensuring accurate forecasting and cost control.
- Create and approve project PRs, track capital spend, and analyze variances.
- Work closely with finance to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Facilitate quarterly business review meetings with development and business leadership to communicate portfolio performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Check in regularly with development teams, project DRIs and owners and sponsors to monitor project progress, gather feedback, and address concerns.
- Prepare and present portfolio status reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics, achievements, and challenges.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Information Technology).
- + 5 years of experience in technical project management, portfolio management, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of capital projects with a strong understanding of financial principles and budgeting processes.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., Wrike, Microsoft Project, Jira, Asana).
- Prior experience working at client on technical projects and stakeholders is highly desirable.
- PMP or other relevant project management certification beneficial
