Role: ServiceNow CMDB Consultant / Advisor – Data Governance
Contract Duration: 1 year- (6 months, with potential renewal for an additional 6 months if performance is there)

Role Overview
Client is seeking an experienced ServiceNow CMDB Consultant / Advisor to provide strategic guidance, industry best practices, and hands-on advisory expertise in Configuration Management Database (CMDB) implementation, optimization, and governance.
The successful candidate will work with business and technology stakeholders to assess the current CMDB environment, identify gaps, recommend improvements, and guide strategic decisions related to configuration management, IT Asset Management (ITAM), data governance, and technology risk.
This role requires a strong consulting and advisory background, including experience supporting ServiceNow CMDB implementation projects, facilitating workshops, influencing stakeholders, and translating business and technical requirements into practical recommendations.
The ideal candidate combines deep ServiceNow CMDB knowledge with an understanding of hardware and software asset models, licensing, configuration item relationships, data quality, and enterprise governance practices.

Key Responsibilities

ServiceNow CMDB Consulting & Advisory

• Provide expert consulting and advisory services on ServiceNow CMDB architecture, implementation, configuration, and optimization.
• Recommend industry best practices, standards, and frameworks for effective configuration management.
• Assess existing CMDB processes, structures, data quality, and governance practices to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Support or advise on ServiceNow CMDB implementation projects, including defining requirements, evaluating approaches, and recommending solutions.
• Guide strategic decision-making regarding CMDB structure, configuration item (CI) models, relationships, data ingestion, and ongoing maintenance.
• Advise on ServiceNow's hardware and software asset models, including the relationship between CMDB and IT Asset Management processes.
• Provide guidance on software licensing, asset lifecycle management, and related governance considerations.

Workshops & Stakeholder Engagement

• Facilitate workshops with business, technology, architecture, infrastructure, IT operations, and risk stakeholders.
• Lead discussions to assess current-state capabilities, define target-state requirements, and establish improvement roadmaps.
• Influence stakeholders and build consensus on recommended solutions, governance standards, and implementation priorities.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear business recommendations for leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Challenge existing processes constructively and provide objective recommendations aligned with industry standards.

Data Governance & Quality

• Advise on data ownership, stewardship, accountability, metadata management, and data quality controls related to CMDB and IT asset information.
• Conduct current-state assessments and gap analyses to identify data governance and configuration management weaknesses.
• Recommend standards and controls to improve data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability.
• Support the development of governance frameworks, policies, documentation, procedures, and performance metrics.
• Identify data and technology risks and recommend remediation strategies.

IT Asset Management & Technology Risk

• Provide guidance on IT Asset Management (ITAM), including hardware and software asset lifecycle management.
• Advise on software asset management, licensing compliance, and the relationship between asset records and configuration items.
• Support improvements to asset and configuration data management processes.
• Collaborate with risk, compliance, audit, and technology teams to strengthen controls and support regulatory requirements.
• Define recommendations for sustainable CMDB governance, operational processes, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of relevant experience, ideally in ServiceNow CMDB consulting, advisory, implementation, or enterprise configuration management.
• Strong, demonstrable experience providing consulting or advisory services related to ServiceNow CMDB.
• Experience working on ServiceNow CMDB implementation, transformation, optimization, or improvement projects.
• Deep understanding of CMDB architecture, configuration items, CI relationships, data models, data ingestion, and configuration management processes.
• Knowledge of ServiceNow hardware and software asset models, ITAM, Software Asset Management (SAM), and licensing management.
• Proven ability to assess current-state environments, conduct gap analyses, and recommend target-state solutions.
• Experience facilitating workshops, gathering requirements, presenting recommendations, and influencing stakeholders at multiple levels.
• Strong understanding of CMDB governance, data quality, ownership, stewardship, and ongoing maintenance.
• Excellent communication, consulting, facilitation, and strategic problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate independently and provide recommendations rather than simply execute predefined tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in financial services, banking, or other complex enterprise environments.
• Experience with enterprise ServiceNow implementations or large-scale CMDB transformation projects.
• Knowledge of ServiceNow ITAM and Software Asset Management, including software licensing and compliance.
• Familiarity with data governance platforms such as Collibra, Alation, or Informatica.
• Experience with SQL, databases, data models, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality analysis.
• Understanding of technology risk, operational risk, regulatory compliance, and audit requirements.
• Experience developing CMDB roadmaps, governance frameworks, operating models, and process documentation.
• Relevant ServiceNow certifications or data management training are considered assets.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a senior ServiceNow CMDB subject matter expert who has worked on enterprise implementation or transformation projects and can advise an organization on how to build, structure, govern, and optimize its CMDB environment.
This person should be comfortable leading workshops, challenging existing practices, recommending industry best practices, and influencing business and technology stakeholders. They should bring a strategic consulting mindset, supported by strong technical knowledge of ServiceNow CMDB, ITAM, hardware and software models, and licensing.
Candidates with direct ServiceNow CMDB consulting and implementation experience should be prioritized over candidates whose backgrounds are primarily in general data governance without substantial CMDB expertise.
