Contract Duration: 3 Months (Potential to Extend)
Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Mon–Fri, every other weekend 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Facility Type: Doctor’s Office (IOP)

Other Requirements:

3-4 years of phlebotomy experience.

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states.

Vaccines required: TB, Hep B (candidate can decline Hep B series).

Good computer skills and customer service skills.

No drug screens; regular phlebotomy for adults only, no children.
Job Description:
-
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
-
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.

Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
-
Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.

Demonstrates technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
-
Fully understands all of the physicians' orders.
-
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
-
Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
-
Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy.

Packages specimens for transport.

Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.

Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Attends annual department trainings.

Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Performs approximately 25-30 draws daily (around 10 draws on Fridays, which are slower).

Works in a medium-sized doctor’s office (IOP) environment, primarily with geriatric patients.

Stands for the majority of the shift.

Works with a team and other employees.

First week involves orientation training.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states.

Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
-
High School Diploma or GED.
-
2-4 years of experience.
Preferred Skills:

Phlebotomy on children and all types of patients.

Hard sticks and needles.

Processing.

Detail-oriented with good experience.

Computer skills.
