Overview: The Sr. Test Development Engineer develops the automation test involves the design, development, building and maintenance of specialized test cases. The automation test solutions including electrical and mechanical hardware fixtures and validates software products through the use of systematic tests to develop, apply, and maintain quality standards for company products including firmware, apps, and server platform. Develops, modifies, and executes software test plans and test protocols and automated test scripts, and performs risk assessments. Maintains documentation of test results to assist in debugging and modification of software. Analyzes test results to ensure existing functionality and recommends corrective action. Consults with software development engineers in resolution of problems. Responsible to train junior engineers for the tasks required to complete and be a mentor to support engineers’ growth.
Role Overview This is a Senior-level Software Development/Test Automation contractor role supporting an end-to-end software automation project. The team works primarily on product releases, including the Dexcom G7 main clinical app, as well as a new CX product and other products in development. The team is responsible for developing and validating tests, creating test scripts, and automating test cases using programming languages such as Python and Java. Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Python or Java.
Work closely with engineering teams on end-to-end test automation.
Automate test cases using the existing Python automation framework.
Develop and execute software validation and testing.
Perform API testing; API testing experience is a plus.
Support testing of mobile applications.
Work with hardware-connected products and transmitted devices.
Participate in some manual testing and general team/engineering meetings.
Use AI tools to support automation and code generation.
The role is approximately 60% automation work, with the remaining 40% consisting of testing, manual work, and meetings. Required Experience
5+ years of experience in software development or software test development.
Strong programming experience with Python or Java.
Experience with software development/testing is highly preferred.
Experience developing automation frameworks and test scripts.
Strong understanding of software development life cycle is preferred.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience
API testing.
Mobile application testing — particularly valuable because much of the automation work involves mobile applications.
Hardware testing/automation experience.
Experience working with electrical or mechanical hardware is also relevant, depending on the candidate's background.
Experience with software/hardware products involving transmitted devices.
AI Experience AI experience is not required, but the team has started incorporating AI into its automation workflow. Candidates are expected to be comfortable using AI tools to help generate code and improve automation work. The team currently has an in-house AI tool powered by Gemini. Work Arrangement
Full-time contractor position.
Potential opportunity to convert to full-time/permanent.
Expected schedule is 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
Start time can generally fall within an 8 AM–6 PM window, depending on the project.
Occasional overtime may be required based on project needs.
Location is flexible.
San Diego-based candidates are preferred because they can come into the office for lab setup and hardware-related work.
Remote candidates can also be considered, as several team members currently work remotely.
The candidate can initially perform automation development remotely, including developing test scripts.
Team / Training The team already has a significant number of test scripts under development. A new team member is expected to start next week, and there are sample scripts available that candidates can review and learn from. The candidate will work closely with engineers to complete end-to-end automation. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of software development or software test development experience, strong Python or Java programming skills, and hands-on experience building automated test scripts. Experience with API testing, mobile applications, and hardware-related testing would make a candidate particularly strong. Candidates with a strong software automation background are preferred, but relevant experience with electrical or mechanical hardware can also be considered depending on the type of products they have worked

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Technically lead the team to Design, develop, execute, and maintain product E2E automated tests to test the software / firmware integrations in client CGM systems.
Use AI system for the test development and execution in elevated fast pace with the quality of the test coverage.
Develop and maintain CICT for client E2E test suite
Record and track issues in the bug tracking system.
Analyze failures and collaborate with development teams to ensure root cause is investigated.
Review software and system requirements and design specifications.
Modify test protocols based on requirements changes and execute regression validation accordingly.
Create requirements traceability matrices which demonstrate test coverage of all features.
Follow internal software development, cybersecurity, and validation procedures that comply with medical and security regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Software development or test experience in medical device industry is a plus.
Knowledge of xCode and Android Studio/ADB interface is a plus
