Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to join a busy outpatient physician office (IOP). The ideal candidate will have strong venipuncture skills, excellent customer service, and experience with specimen processing while working independently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform approximately 25 blood draws per day using straight and butterfly needles.
- Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to laboratory procedures.
- Verify laboratory requisitions and ensure accurate specimen labeling.
- Properly explain specimen collection procedures to patients while providing exceptional customer service.
- Update patient demographic and medical information accurately.
- Perform specimen storage and transport following required temperature and handling protocols.
- Maintain equipment and record maintenance logs.
- Perform decontamination and follow OSHA and DEP safety regulations.
- Troubleshoot specimen collection issues and recommend workflow improvements when appropriate.
- Answer telephone inquiries and assist with laboratory-related questions.
- Attend required annual department training.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience in a fast-paced laboratory, hospital, or outpatient setting.
- Experience performing venipuncture using both straight and butterfly needles.
- Experience with specimen processing, including centrifuging, labeling, packaging, and storage.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2–4 years of overall healthcare experience preferred.
- Valid Phlebotomy Certification (where required by state regulations).
Work Environment
- Outpatient Physician Office (IOP).
- Well-organized office with a supportive staff.
- Candidate will primarily work independently.
Training
- 2 weeks of onsite training.
Additional Information
- Approximately 25 patient draws per day.
- Standing is required as needed while collecting and processing specimens.
- Strong phlebotomy, specimen processing, and computer skills are essential.
- Excellent patient interaction and customer service skills are required.
