Title: Optical Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Redmond, WA
Contract Duration: 12 month
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Optical Manufacturing Engineer to support Satellite programs. In this role, you will lead yield improvement initiatives and root cause analysis for a key line-replaceable unit (LRU) onboard next-generation spacecraft.
As the lead technical contributor, you will work hands-on in a low-rate manufacturing environment, solving challenging problems across optical, electrical, and mechatronic systems. You’ll collaborate closely with technicians and engineers to improve processes, manage quality containments, and drive product reliability in space applications.
Key Responsibilities:

Serve as the technical lead for failure analysis and non-conformance management

Drive yield improvement through proactive process changes

Act as a high-impact problem solver, supporting manufacturing escalations and quality containments

Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective actions using industry best practices

Work with cross-functional teams to improve documentation and streamline test & triage workflows
Day-to-Day Breakdown:

75%: On the production floor with technicians – troubleshooting blockers, reviewing test reports, triaging defective materials, resolving ERP issues

25%: Independent engineering work – data analysis, refining troubleshooting docs, improving process flows
Required Qualifications:

3–8 years of experience in a relevant manufacturing engineering role

Experience in low-rate production and new product introduction (NPI)

Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles

Strong experience with root cause analysis techniques (Fishbone, Fault Tree, DMAIC, etc.)

Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills

Familiarity with optical systems design and metrology
Education Required: BS or MS in Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Optics, or Optical Sciences
Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in Python

Experience with fiber optic systems

Familiarity with statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab)
