Pharmacist

Summary:
The main function of a Pharmacist is to provides drug information expertise for the Pharmacy Services Department and Blue Shield Health Care Services. Supports the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, drug formulary management, drug prior authorization program, drug utilization review and physician reporting programs.
Job Responsibilities:
• Serves as resource for Blue Shield team members regarding the clinical use of drugs.
• Manages activities of staff engaged in development and maintenance of good working relationships with pharmacies and to increase provider participation in Blue Shield programs and networks. Develops new and manages existing cost reduction programs.
• Promotes Pharmacy participation in Blue Shield programs to increase and enhance Blue Shield’s competitive position in the marketplace.
• Manages relationships between Blue Shield and pharmacists to resolve questions or problems in contract interpretation, program implantation or claims administration.
• Develops new and enhanced pharmaceutical programs to provide quality service to members and promote cost savings.
• Provides pharmaceutical expertise for evaluating and implementing programs; provides professional information to all internal departments as needed.
• Manages department activities. Establishes department goals and action plans to support corporate objectives. Monitors and reports on progress in completing projects and accomplishing goals.
• Provides developmental and training opportunities for team members; monitors on-going performance; communicates expectations and results on a regular basis; communicates changes in guidelines, policies, procedures, and other related matters.
• Provides technical support and guidance to less experienced team members. Oversees research activities and evaluates findings. Resolves complex issues and problems as needed.
• Prepares annual operating budget and monitors costs to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines. Directly supervises employees, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Skills:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent facility with MS office applications
• Excellent math, analytical and problem solving skills
Qualifications:
• Requires Current State of California Pharmacist License.
• Requires PharmD degree and clinical pharmacy experience.
• Requires extensive experience in Clinical Pharmacy and Managed Care Administration.
• Requires experience in a combination of functional and supervisory capacity.
• 5-7 years experience required.
