Phlebotomist II
Duration: 3+ Months
Location 954 Route 146 Clifton Park, NY
Schedule
- Monday – Friday: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Every Other Saturday: 7:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Position Type: Non-Float
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Phlebotomist II is to perform specimen collection and processing while assisting with troubleshooting, training, workflow recommendations, and maintaining laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection using straight and butterfly needles.
- Label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures.
- Collect and store specimens while maintaining specimen integrity and required temperature controls.
- Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and verify test orders for accuracy.
- Update patient information and maintain specimen records.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures.
- Clearly explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a courteous and professional manner.
- Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as appropriate.
- Comply with OSHA, DEP, and all laboratory safety regulations.
- Attend annual department training sessions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2–4 years of related experience.
- Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Phlebotomy Certification (required in applicable states).
