Title: Phlebotomist II
Duration: 3 months
Shift
Option 1:
• Monday through Friday: 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM
• Every other weekend: 4:30 AM – 9:00 AM
• One day off during the week when working the weekend

• Every other weekend: 4:30 AM – 9:00 AM

Description:
Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, specimen processing, maintenance recording, and decontamination procedures
- Collect and store specimens according to established protocols and procedures
- Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures (blood, urine, fecal, etc.) to patients
- Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles
- Review and fully understand physician orders before specimen collection
- Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes accurately
- Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and prepare specimens as required by test orders
- Verify all test requisitions and computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
- Package specimens appropriately for transport
- Store specimens at required temperatures and ensure proper handling to maintain specimen integrity
- Follow protocol-specific procedures for specimen collection and transportation
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend required annual departmental training sessions
- Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results as needed to satisfy inquiries
- Update and maintain accurate patient information records
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Phlebotomy Certification for the state of employment (required in certain states)
- Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 2–4 years of overall relevant experience preferred
