Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Phlebotomist II is to perform specimen collection and processing while assisting with troubleshooting, training, workflow recommendations, and maintaining laboratory standards. The ideal candidate will be experienced in high-volume blood collection and specimen handling while delivering excellent patient care.
Key Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture and specimen collection using straight and butterfly needles.

Collect 30–50 blood draws daily from patients of all ages.

Label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures.

Collect and store specimens while maintaining specimen integrity and required temperature controls.

Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and verify physician orders for accuracy.

Check all test requisitions and computer-generated labels to ensure 100% accuracy.

Update patient information and maintain specimen records.

Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures.

Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (urine, fecal, etc.) in a professional and courteous manner.

Package and prepare specimens for transport according to laboratory protocols.

Maintain compliance with OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety regulations.

Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory information as appropriate.

Attend annual department training sessions.
Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

2–4 years of related experience.

Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Valid Phlebotomy Certification (required in applicable states).
Work Environment

Patient Service Center setting.

Serves patients of all age groups.

Works alongside one additional team member.

Training will be conducted at the same location as the assignment.

Training duration will depend on the candidate's learning curve and proficiency.
