Orientation will be conducted in Houston, TX.
Candidates should be comfortable traveling to Houston, TX for orientation.
Work Schedule: 1st Shift
Monday – Thursday: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Friday: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Position Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
Demonstrates technique(s) using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understands all physicians' orders.
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test orders.
Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Packages specimens for transport.
Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labels specimens, and follows transport protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attends annual department training.
Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states.
Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
2–4 years of overall experience.
