Location: Columbia SC (3 days in-office, 2 days remote (Tues, Weds, and Thurs in-office). Additional on-site days maybe required.)
Contract length: 12 Months (Contract to Hire)

Job Summary:
Duties/About the role:
- Focuses on server operations across multiple platforms with concentration in providing functional and empirical technical analysis related to the server infrastructure.
- 25% Analyzes server workload, including traffic and utilization trends. Provides analytical support to team members throughout the development and implementation process. Provides feedback on commonly encountered problems and misunderstandings to enhance user documentation and/or training programs etc. May provide training on hardware and/or software use.
- 25% Compiles and analyzes operational data and directs tests to assist in establishing standard for new designs or modifications to existing equipment, systems, or processes. Tests and verifies servers and support peripherals to ensure that they meet specifications and requirements, by recording and analyzing test data.
- 25% Confers with technical specialists and consults specifications to evaluate interface between hardware and software and operational and performance requirements of overall system (s). Interfaces with users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors for maximum guidance or on new technology to determine installation requirements.
- 10% Ensures compliance with audit requirements. Addresses vulnerabilities within audit-mandated time frames. Anticipates and mitigates problems to integrity the security of the system. Maintains effective security/backup and disaster recovery processes and systems.
- 10% Monitors server performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future. Creates and maintains process and procedure documentation.
- 5% Keeps knowledge and skills updated to keep up with rapid advancements in server technology.
Day to Day:
- The day would begin with performing various monitoring activities and health checks.
- These tasks include checking job status, reviewing operational dashboards, and checking/reviewing email notifications.
- The next phase of the day would be focused on incident response and problem management.
- These tasks would include incident ticket assignments, troubleshooting monitoring alerts and providing technical assistance to our customers.
- There will be some project work involvement, training/knowledge sharing events, system maintenance and remediation tasks and various continued improvement activities.
Team Info/Team name:
- The Unix Operations team consists of a group of approx. 11 technicians. The group handles operational availability and various system changes. This team also performs various maintenance activities which would include HW/SW maintenance, security vulnerability management, and project support. The team is very collaborative and highly motivated.
Work Environment:
- Fast paced, multi-platformed environment which may require action and response 24X7 to support the technical business needs of the customer.
Job Requirements:
- Advanced technical knowledge of server, communications, and related hardware and software.
- Strong understanding of technical problems and solutions in relation to the current, as well as the future business environment.
- Proficiency with server technologies and platforms.
- Excellent problem analysis of server systems.
- Able to gather information, analyze information and troubleshoot various server problems.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical people. Strong customer service skills.
- Strong knowledge of common server analysis, monitoring and security utilities.
Required Experience:
- 6 years of server or other job-related experience.
Preferred Work Experience:
- 7 years-of experience working in infrastructure/server environments performing analysis (hardware and/or software), planning, and implementation.
Required EDU:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or other job-related degree. or 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or other job related degree
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's degree
- Strong understanding of relevant server hardware and software.
- RAID Storage experience and solid network experience related to custom server configurations.
Preferred Licenses and Certificates
- Comptia A+, Network +, Security +
Nice to have/Preferred skills:
- AIX experience
- Solaris Experience
- IT Vulnerability Management
- Security and Compliance
NOT LOOKING FOR:
- Heavy experience in AIX and Solaris
- Heavy Windows experience
- Heavy Network experience
