Job Title: Phlebotomist II
Job Location: 91 Perimeter Rd, Ste 150, Rome, NY, USA, 13441
Contract Duration: 3-Month Contract
Shift: Monday–Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Rotating Saturdays 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Facility Type: Patient Service Center (PSC)
Interview Mode: Onsite Interview
Other Requirements:
• 2+ years of Phlebotomy experience required
• TB and Hep B vaccines required (candidate may decline Hep B series)
Job Description:
• The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
• Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understands all of the physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
• Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Packages specimens for transport.
• Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attends annual department trainings.
• Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• 2–4 years of experience
