Position Overview

Responsibilities are interchangeable among job titles such as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS). The specific work environment/department will be outlined in the assignment requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Determine specimen acceptability according to established criteria

• Perform routine and complex technical laboratory procedures per departmental SOPs

• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation

• Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving

• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls

• Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care

• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

• Maintain adequate bench supplies and assist with specimen processing as needed

• Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to PPE requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or equivalent meeting local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements

• 0–2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required

• State Medical Technologist license (if required by assignment)

• ASCP or AMT certification preferred or required (as specified in assignment)

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment

• Proficiency with computers; laboratory information systems experience preferred

• Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills

• Must pass standardized color vision screening

• Flexibility to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs
