Phlebotomist / Clinical Research Assistant

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Phlebotomist / Clinical Research Assistant to support clinical research and patient care activities. This role will be responsible for performing phlebotomy and specimen collection, processing and shipping biological samples, maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment, and supporting Clinical Research Coordinators with study-related activities.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly with research participants, patients, and clinical teams while following study protocols, laboratory manuals, regulatory requirements, and established procedures.

Required Experience

• Healthcare, clinical, patient-facing, or research experience: 1 year required.
• Phlebotomy experience: 1 year required.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic, and standard office practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of standard office equipment and administrative procedures.
• Proficiency with Google Suite.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing needs.
• Comfortable working directly with research participants, patients, and clinical teams.
• Ability to follow detailed study protocols, laboratory manuals, and established procedures.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and handle sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality.
• CPR certification, or the ability to obtain CPR certification within six months of the start date.

Key Responsibilities

Phlebotomy & Patient Support

• Perform phlebotomy and blood draws for research participants and clinic patients.
• Support in-clinic frequent sample collection sessions.
• Assist with laboratory procedures related to blood glucose testing and continuous glucose sensor accuracy.
• Prepare and stock exam rooms to ensure all required supplies are available for scheduled patient visits.

Specimen Processing & Shipping

• Process biological samples and prepare specimens according to study-specific laboratory manuals and established guidelines.
• Complete accurate laboratory requisition forms and maintain proper documentation for collected and shipped specimens.
• Package and ship laboratory samples in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and IATA guidelines.
• Transport late-draw samples to designated courier drop-off locations, including UPS and FedEx, when needed to meet study timelines.
• Prepare study laboratory kits and materials for upcoming scheduled patient visits.

Laboratory Operations

• Assist with laboratory equipment calibration and maintain accurate temperature logs.
• Perform daily and weekly cleaning of laboratory and clinical areas.
• Support the proper management and disposal of medical and pharmaceutical waste.
• Monitor laboratory and study supply inventory and communicate supply needs to Clinical Research Coordinators.
• Assist with medical supply inventory management and monthly or as-needed supply ordering.
• Organize and remove expired or no longer needed laboratory kits and materials.

Clinical Research Support

• Maintain a general understanding of active research studies through required study and protocol training.
• Assist Clinical Research Coordinators with obtaining medical records from outside healthcare facilities.
• Perform other delegated research-related duties as assigned.
• Support clinical research activities in accordance with FDA, sponsor, and study-specific requirements.
• Ensure laboratory and research activities are performed in compliance with established protocols, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
