Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM; Friday, 7:30 AM–3:00 PM
Shift: 1st Shift
Duration- 3+ months
Assignment: Temp-to-Perm

Position Summary

The Phlebotomist will perform blood draws and specimen collection while ensuring accurate labeling, processing, storage, and transportation of specimens. The role also supports laboratory workflow, patient information updates, troubleshooting, and other assigned laboratory duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture using straight and/or butterfly needles.
• Explain the blood-drawing and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes and verify orders for accuracy.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity throughout handling.
• Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation.
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination activities.
• Understand and follow physicians' orders and specific testing protocols.
• Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and attend required department training.
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results information as permitted.
• Assist with troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Valid phlebotomy certification where required by state regulations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong attention to detail and specimen-handling accuracy.
• TB vaccination required.

Assignment Details

• Temp-to-Perm: Eligible for conversion to a full-time employee based on performance.
• Training/Reporting Location: Main Lab, 7207 Gessner, Houston, TX 77040.
