About the Team
Team Meridian owns Internationalization, the foundational engine that powers Workday's Globalization strategy. Meridian builds the core capabilities that let every Workday product meet legal and regulatory standards for tax, payroll, financial reporting, and data exchange across 100+ countries, while also enabling region-specific local standards, custom metadata frameworks, and secure, agent-ready APIs that expose globalization data to both application teams and AI agents.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Product Manager (P4) to join Team Meridian on a 6-month contract based in Chennai (50% onsite required to partner closely with the Chennai-based engineering team). This role operates at two altitudes: you'll partner closely with the Engineering Manager to help shape the team's strategic direction, while reporting into Product Management leadership for career and functional guidance. Day to day, you'll be deeply hands-on: writing clear, detailed requirements and grooming Jira backlogs so engineering always has unambiguous, well-scoped work to execute against. We need someone equally comfortable in a roadmap strategy conversation and in the details of a well-written acceptance criterion.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with the Team Meridian Engineering Manager to define and evolve the roadmap across core internationalization capabilities: global standards compliance, region-specific local standards, custom metadata/validation frameworks, and agent-ready APIs for globalization metadata.
Translate strategic priorities into clearly scoped epics and specific acceptance criteria that leave no ambiguity for engineering.
Drive prioritization tradeoffs between platform modernization (e.g., retiring legacy tooling, standardizing translation/localization tooling) and ongoing support of critical region-specific services.
Partner with architecture and security stakeholders to ensure globalization APIs and data meet authentication, authorization, and role-based access requirements for both human and AI agent consumers.
Help define and track success metrics for globalization investments, contributing to a centralized globalization analytics and monitoring effort.
Act as a key liaison between Team Meridian and the broader Globalization organization and Product Management leadership, ensuring platform work is aligned with overall Globalization strategy.
Own day-to-day backlog grooming, sprint readiness, and stakeholder communication.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of experience as a Product Manager, including platform, infrastructure, or API-driven products
Demonstrated experience writing detailed technical requirements and user stories in Jira (or equivalent)
Experience partnering directly with engineering leadership to set and execute roadmap strategy
Willingness and ability to be onsite in Chennai 50% of the time to collaborate in person with engineering
Strong written communication skills and comfort operating in ambiguity while remaining detail-oriented
Other Qualifications
Experience with internationalization, localization, or globalization platforms, or other metadata-driven/compliance-heavy domains (tax, payroll, financial reporting)
Familiarity with API-first or agent-integration patterns (e.g., MCP, agent skills) a plus
