We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced candidate focusing on design, enhancement and maintenance of high volume geospatial and map centric applications on mainframe platforms using Cobol, DB2, VSAM and CICS. The role requires eight to twelve years of experience in complex data processing, robust transaction handling and high reliability environments for enterprise clients.
Mandatory skills: COBOL, DB2, CICS and VSAM
The responsibilities includes: -Design and maintain geospatial data processing workflows on mainframe platforms using Cobol, DB2 and VSAM to ensure accurate and timely delivery of mapping information to downstream systems. -Develop and optimize Cobol batch and online programs that process high volume spatial and attribute data to support enterprise scale location intelligence capabilities. -Configure and support mainframe CICS transactions that expose geospatial services to consuming applications ensuring stable performance and predictable response times. -Implement robust DB2 database structures and VSAM files tuned for geospatial workloads ensuring data integrity, efficient query access and reliable storage management. -Create and maintain reusable components for map data ingestion transformation and export enabling consistent integration across multiple business functions. -Analyze existing mainframe geospatial applications to identify performance bottlenecks and implement tuning strategies that reduce resource consumption and processing time. -Collaborate with cross functional teams including application developers data analysts and infrastructure specialists to align geospatial solutions with broader enterprise architecture strategies. -Establish and maintain technical documentation covering system design data models process flows and operational procedures to support maintainability and knowledge sharing. -Implement monitoring and alerting practices for mainframe based mapping solutions to detect failures early minimize downtime and ensure compliant service levels. -Develop and execute unit and integration tests for Cobol DB2 VSAM and CICS components ensuring reliability of geospatial functions before deployment to production environments. -Coordinate with quality and compliance teams to ensure that map data handling meets regulatory expectations data governance policies and internal audit standards. -Provide day to day support for incidents change requests and enhancements related to mainframe geospatial applications ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. -Guide peers and junior engineers by sharing best practices for mainframe geospatial development thereby strengthening delivery quality and overall team capability.
Qualifications : - Possess professional experience in mainframe development spanning eight to twelve years with strong exposure to enterprise grade geospatial or mapping solutions. - Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Cobol development including structured programming practices performance tuning techniques and error handling strategies. - Exhibit strong expertise in DB2 database design query optimization and data modeling practices tailored for complex spatial and attribute datasets. - Apply solid hands on experience with VSAM file design access methods and performance tuning for large volume data processing workloads. - Utilize practical knowledge of mainframe CICS for designing reliable online transaction processing solutions that expose geospatial services to other systems. - Bring working familiarity with job control concepts scheduling practices and operational tools used to manage mainframe batch workloads. - Show capability to interpret business requirements prepare clear technical specifications and translate them into maintainable mainframe implementations. - Display effective communication and collaboration skills to work in hybrid teams across locations and time zones while maintaining strong delivery focus.
