Job Title: SAP Transportation Management (TM) Consultant / Specialist
Location - Onsite at Minneapolis, Minnesota at Client office or Remote
 
Job Summary
The SAP TM Consultant/Specialist is responsible for designing, configuring, implementing, and supporting SAP Transportation Management solutions to optimize freight planning, execution, and settlement processes. This role bridges business logistics requirements with SAP technical capabilities to streamline order-to-delivery transportation workflows across inbound, outbound, and cross-border shipments.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Gather business requirements from logistics, supply chain, and freight operations teams and translate them into SAP TM functional designs.
• Configure and support core SAP TM processes: freight unit building, transportation planning (manual & optimizer-based), carrier selection, tendering, freight order/booking management, and charge calculation.
• Manage integration between SAP TM and SAP ERP/S4HANA (Order Management, MM, SD), EWM, and GTS (Global Trade Services) for a seamless logistics execution chain.
• Configure and maintain freight agreements, rate tables, calculation sheets, and settlement documents (freight settlement, self-billing).
• Support carrier and forwarder onboarding, including EDI/IDoc interfaces for tendering, tracking, and status updates.
• Work with transportation network configuration: means of transport, resources, schedules, locations, and transportation lanes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (warehouse, procurement, customer service, finance) to ensure end-to-end process integrity.
• Perform system testing (unit, integration, UAT), troubleshoot issues, and provide production support/incident resolution.
• Support reporting and analytics using SAP TM embedded analytics, Fiori apps, or BW/BI extraction.
• Document configuration, process flows, and training materials; conduct end-user training as needed.
• Stay current on SAP TM roadmap, S/4HANA Transportation Management embedded features, and best practices.

 
Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of hands-on SAP TM configuration and implementation experience (embedded S/4HANA TM or standalone SAP TM 9.x).
• Strong understanding of transportation processes: planning, execution, freight settlement, and carrier collaboration.
• Experience integrating SAP TM with SAP ERP/S4HANA logistics modules (SD, MM, EWM) and/or third-party TMS/EDI systems.
• Familiarity with freight cost calculation, rate management, and charge management configuration.
• Knowledge of SAP TM master data: locations, means of transport, resources, transportation zones/lanes.
• Experience with full project lifecycle (blueprint, realization, testing, go-live, support) using Agile or ASAP/Activate methodology.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders.

 
Preferred Qualifications:

• SAP TM/S4HANA Logistics certification.
• Experience with SAP Fiori apps for TM, embedded analytics, or SAP Analytics Cloud.
• Exposure to Global Trade Services (GTS), Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), or Event Management (SAP EM/Track & Trace).
• Experience with optimizer configuration (VSR optimization) and carrier tendering strategies.
• Background in industries with heavy logistics needs (manufacturing, retail, consumer goods, 3PL).
• ABAP debugging skills for troubleshooting interfaces (not required to code, but helpful for issue diagnosis).
