Ave NW Washington DC. 20011 Shift : 9 am - 6 pm Required skills- Spanish speaking preferred Job Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
Demonstrates technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understands all of the physicians' orders.
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% correct.
Packages specimens for transport.
Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined specific to the protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attends annual department trainings.
Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
Experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
