Job Title: Senior Software Engineer III Location: Raleigh, NC (Onsite) or Lowell, MA Duration: 18 months
Project Overview We are seeking a highly specialized Software Engineer for a long-term contract engagement focusing on the modernization of the Red Hat Certificate System (RHCS). The primary objective is to enhance certificate enrollment protocols and integrate Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) support for hardware tokens and smart cards.
Core Deliverables & Responsibilities
Take existing applications that are costly and burdensome to maintain and convert them into applications that enhance and extend our core product.
Design and stand up a highly scalable testing environment with rapidly deployable CI/CD pipelines. Build out comprehensive test procedures that validate end-user operations.
Actively engage with the IETF and other standards groups. Ensure certificate enrollment protocol stays current with existing standards and aligns with emerging ones.
Modernize the protocols accordingly, and implement Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) support for smart cards and hardware tokens.
Develop and deploy a modernized User Interface for the Red Hat Certificate System.
Execute deep-level engineering tasks in Java, Rust, and C, ensuring compatibility with RHEL and OpenShift environments.
Technical Requirements
Language Proficiency: Advanced capability in Java and/or Rust (specifically for system-level modernization). Proficiency in Python
Security Standards: Deep understanding of PKI, certificate life cycles, and hardware-based authentication (Smart Cards/HSMs).
Infrastructure: Proficiency in Fedora, RHEL, OpenShift.
Emerging Tech: Familiarity with AI-assisted SDLC and PQC standards.
Nature of Engagement
Individual Contributor: This is a pure engineering role. There are no people management or formal mentoring requirements.
Provisioning: Client will provide a secure laptop/workstation for access to internal environments and the customer lab.
Autonomy: The contractor is responsible for the technical execution of the above-defined tasks and is expected to manage their own workflows to meet project milestones.
