Technical Project Manager II
12 months
Remote
Standard Working Hours: M-F, 9AM-6PM Pacific (West-Coast US) With Occasional weekend on-call availability required, for approximately 5 hours, once settled into the contract.
About the Role
Meta Live Ops is the dedicated team within Reality Labs Entertainment responsible for preparing, executing, and monitoring Live and pre-recorded events across Meta's immersive platforms. From courtside experiences and game days to concerts, comedy shows, and tentpole entertainment moments, our team manages the full event lifecycle: signal contribution and ingest, real-time monitoring and incident response, platform feature validation, and post-event analysis.
We are seeking a technical, operationally versatile analyst who is passionate about media technology and relentless in finding efficient ways of getting things done. This role sits at the intersection of broadcast engineering, streaming technology, and platform operations -- combining hands-on technical support with project management, process development, and platform feature scoping. You will serve as a key operational and technical resource on the Live Ops team, supporting Live and VOD workflows end-to-end: from signal path planning and Vendor onboarding through real-time monitoring, troubleshooting, and post-event analysis. You will engage and support our Vendor workforce to ensure consistent, high-quality execution across Live and VOD operations. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Production, and Partnerships teams to ensure events published and run with minimal disruption, and that our platforms continually evolve to meet the demands of premier content at scale.
Note: This role participates in a weekend on call as part of a rotation or as required.
Responsibilities
Serve as a key point of contact for vendor engagement and event-day technical support
Support, train, and enable vendor teams to ensure Live and VOD events are monitored, executed, and delivered with efficiency and accuracy
Monitor live broadcasts in real time, triaging and escalating technical issues
Drive real-time coordination with production and engineering teams to mitigate and resolve issues during live events
Design and document signal path architectures for platform workflows, applying broadcast standards to validate and optimize contribution and distribution pipelines
Validate transcoding configurations, metadata integrity, failover procedures, and quality assurance checkpoints across the ingest-to-egress chain
Apply deep knowledge of streaming infrastructure -- ingest protocols, encoding pipelines, CDN egress, ABR packaging, and playback delivery -- to optimize configurations, identify systemic issues, and inform platform roadmap decisions
Translate operational needs into technical specifications for platform features, defining acceptance criteria, edge cases, and rollout considerations
Author and maintain platform documentation, operational runbooks, and escalation workflows
Manage key projects independently from initiation through completion, defining scope, timelines, and resources needed to meet objectives
Own stakeholder communication throughout project lifecycles, surfacing deliverables, timelines, dependencies, and risks proactively
Proactively identify risks in project execution and mitigate them effectively
Build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships with Engineering, Operations, Production, and Partnerships to drive alignment and unblock execution
Lead vendor evaluation, integration testing, and platform readiness assessments for new broadcast initiatives
Design, develop, and maintain bespoke AI tooling solutions to streamline operations
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years of experience in video content operations, broadcast operations, streaming media, or related technical roles in entertainment/media industries
Working knowledge of live broadcast environments: switching/routing, signal path design, network monitoring, and troubleshooting
Understanding of broadcast contribution and distribution standards (e.g., SMPTE ST 2110/2022, SCTE-35, SEI/KLV metadata, closed captioning)
Experience executing on streaming platform fundamentals: ingest protocols (RTMP, SRT, RIST), transcoding/encoding, adaptive bitrate packaging (HLS, DASH), and CDN delivery
Demonstrated project management ability, managing multiple priorities simultaneously from initiation to completion
Experience in fast-paced, dynamic environments with competing priorities
Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interfacing with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience working on large cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with signal path planning tools, network diagrams, or workflow visualization (e.g., Figma, Excalidraw, Mermaid)
Hands-on experience with broadcast control systems, video routers, or IP-based media workflows
Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms for live video
Experience developing operational documentation, SOPs, runbooks, or process playbooks
Background in platform feature scoping, requirements gathering, or product operations
Knowledge of cloud-based media processing pipelines (transcoding farms, origin servers, etc.)
Experience at a studio, media company, streaming platform, post-production facility, or live event production environment
Familiarity with automation and scripting for operational workflows
Understanding of content protection (DRM), watermarking, or access control mechanisms in live streaming
Experience with VR/immersive or next-gen media formats
Demonstrated experience in developing AI tools
