Job Description

Job Title: Specialist, Communications II
Duration: 7 months with possible extension 
Location: Columbia, SC, 29203
Shift: 8:00 am-5:30 pm

Overview:

Promote blending learning and communication solutions using innovative technology or tools to meet business goals. Write and/or edit all materials to include communications with internal and external audiences (members, clients, prospects and agents/brokers/consultants, internal associates, healthcare providers, and other represented populations). Consults with Corporate Communications to assure adherence to Brand rules and corporate style. Also works with Corporate Communications for the design and layout of materials/publications. May be responsible for the maintenance of information on the division's website/intranet site.

Key Responsibilities

60% - Communication & Marketing Material Development

  • Writes internal/external communication materials (correspondence, newsletters, bulletins, manuals, brochures, handouts, articles, sales promotions, training materials, radio/TV, etc.) for the company, subsidiaries, subscribers, etc. that align with corporate and/or line of business marketing goals.
  • Works with Corporate Communications to produce a variety of marketing and advertising materials, select appropriate media and design materials, coordinate revisions, printing and distribution of these materials.
  • Ensures all functional areas and Corporate Communications have reviewed/approved for content/grammar/spelling accuracy and makes revisions.
  • Edits copy, proofs design, and consults with Corporate Communications on the design direction of materials.

25% - Business Partnership & Project Support

  • Works with business partners, colleagues, customers, etc. to identify business needs and may work closely with management to develop high quality proposals.
  • Researches and identifies available reference sources to successfully complete projects.
  • May assist with special events/meetings and promotional efforts.
  • Works with Corporate Communications to ensure that all guidelines are met with respect to proper usage of logos and brand rules.

10% - Website Content Management

  • Creates/writes/edits/updates and manages content on the division's internal and/or external websites.

5% - Project Tracking & Customer Service

  • Tracks projects and maintains high level of customer service.
  • Ensures appropriate staff and management are informed of project status.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Effective organizational and planning skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent proficiency in editing/writing; spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • Strong business math proficiency.
  • Ability to persuade, negotiate, or influence others.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to explain, organize, and simplify complex information for specific target audiences.

Required Software and Tools

  • Microsoft Office

Education

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications/Journalism, Public Relations, English, Liberal Arts, or other job-related field.

Required Work Experience

  • 3 years of communications, marketing or publications experience to include writing communications/advertisement materials.
