This is a hybrid position requiring onsite attendance as needed.

Travel to various Northern California locations may be required, including occasional overnight stays. Approved travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Company-issued laptop will be provided. Any additional equipment must be supplied by the staffing vendor.

Candidates must be available during standard business hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST) and able to attend in-person meetings when required.

Technical Expertise

Experience designing and developing Instructor-Led Training (ILT), Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), and Web-Based Training (WBT).

Strong foundation in instructional design methodologies (ADDIE or similar frameworks).

Ability to convert complex technical content into engaging, learner-centered training materials.

Experience conducting task analysis and working closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather, validate, and refine content.

Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate, Captivate, or similar platforms.

Experience creating assessments, simulations, videos, and performance support materials.

Understanding of compliance-driven, safety-focused, or technical training environments preferred.

Position Summary
The Contract Instructional Designer will design and develop instructor-led, field-based, and blended learning programs supporting apprenticeship training within the power generation industry. This role requires expertise in adult learning principles, task analysis, technical content development, and collaboration with SMEs to create effective learning experiences focused on operational excellence and safety.
Key Responsibilities

Design and develop classroom-based and on-the-job training programs for apprenticeship and technical workforce development initiatives.

Conduct detailed task analyses for employees performing complex, hands-on, high-risk operational work.

Create student guides, facilitator guides, hands-on practice activities, job aids, and scenario-based learning materials.

Develop assessments, simulations, videos, and other instructional media to support skill acquisition and job performance.

Define learning objectives, course structures, and instructional strategies aligned with stakeholder requirements and operational constraints.

Apply established instructional design standards, templates, and development processes.

Participate in project milestone reviews including task analysis, alpha, beta, train-the-trainer, and pilot sessions.

Collaborate closely with SMEs for ongoing content review, validation, and refinement.

Proactively identify and communicate project risks, issues, and dependencies.

Manage assigned deliverables and timelines to ensure successful project completion.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design, Education, Training & Development, or a related field.

Minimum 3 years of experience developing instructor-led training for complex, hands-on technical skills within utilities, industrial operations, manufacturing, engineering, construction, or related industries.

Strong instructional design and technical writing experience.

Experience developing learning content for technical or operational audiences.

Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.

Ability to independently manage priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.

Demonstrated experience partnering effectively with SMEs and project stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting hydroelectric operations, power generation, apprenticeships, mechanical engineering, machining, or related technical environments.

Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Adult Learning, or related discipline.

Experience with QuestionMark, Author-it, or similar content development tools.

Graphic design capabilities.

Teaching, facilitation, or instructor experience.

Previous experience supporting large-scale utility training programs.
Travel Requirements

Travel to regional operational facilities may be required.

Occasional overnight travel may be necessary to support project milestones, stakeholder meetings, and field activities.
