Senior Software Development Engineer (contingent) for Workday’s Demo Platform team, building and operating the services and UIs that power our global presales demos. You will own end-to-end design and implementation of scalable Kotlin/JVM services, REST APIs, and React/TypeScript front-ends, contribute to architectural decisions, and help evolve our cloud-based CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code stack. You will collaborate closely with distributed teammates and presales stakeholders across multiple time zones, driving innovation, reliability, and usability in our demo platform. Role based in Warsaw, Poland or Heredia, Costa Rica.

The Demo Platform team is looking for a senior engineer who wants to work and grow in a highly collaborative environment while helping to deliver value to our world-class presales organization. Our mission is to build and operate the demo platform that powers Workday’s global presales demos, enabling solution consultants to configure, run, and scale compelling demo experiences for customers.

As the only development team within presales, the Demo Platform team is in a unique position to innovate and solve complex, demo-specific challenges in an agile environment. We behave like a product engineering team, but our primary customers are internal presales teams who depend on us for reliable, flexible demo environments. The team is distributed across multiple regions (EMEA and North America), and we rely on effective communication, ownership, and trust to collaborate successfully.

About You

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, including designing, building, and operating production services
• Strong programming skills in a statically typed language (ideally Kotlin or Java)
• Experience designing and building REST APIs and integrating with distributed services
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript in a modern front-end framework (preferably React)
• Solid understanding of SQL and relational database design
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a globally distributed team, collaborating across multiple time zones and using both synchronous and asynchronous communication
• Experience taking ownership of features or systems from design through delivery and ongoing support

Other Qualifications

• Deep experience with Kotlin and the broader JVM ecosystem
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based deployment models (e.g., Jenkins)
• Strong grounding in software design principles (design patterns, SOLID, dependency injection)
• Experience with automated testing and quality tooling (e.g., Cypress, WATS, or similar) and a strong focus on code quality
• Experience delivering UX-focused features in partnership with designers or internal stakeholders
• Comfortable working in Linux-based environments and with command-line tooling
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including documenting and explaining technical and architectural decisions
• Demonstrated ability to mentor other engineers, provide thoughtful code reviews, and positively influence team engineering practices
• High degree of self-motivation, ownership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently identify, prioritize, and drive work to completion
• Interest in supporting internal users, triaging issues from solution consultants, and turning their needs into improvements to the demo platform
