Job Title: SMA Portfolio Manager / Trader
Location Remote (U.S.)
Ideal location: Alpharetta, GA
Type: Permanent/Direct-Hire
Reports To: Managing Director, Head of Investment Management SMA
Overview
The ideal candidate will bring strong equity market expertise, deep derivatives knowledge (especially options), and hands-on experience managing portfolio risk across securities, sectors, and overall portfolio exposures. This is a highly execution-focused role in a lean environment where the Portfolio Manager will also spend meaningful time trading and implementing approved strategies directly.
This is a hands-on investment role within a small team that values independence, precision, and strong judgment in both trading and portfolio construction decisions.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage SMA portfolios focused on equity strategies and tax-sensitive investment solutions
- Execute trades directly, including options strategies and hedging transactions based on approved portfolio decisions
- Spend ~30%–40% of time on trade execution depending on daily portfolio activity and market conditions
- Implement options-based strategies for concentrated equity positions, including hedging and risk mitigation structures
- Evaluate and optimize portfolio construction with respect to client objectives, tax efficiency, and risk parameters
- Assess trade quality and identify opportunities for improved execution and portfolio outcomes
- Monitor portfolio risk across security, sector, and total portfolio levels
- Support tax-aware portfolio management including tax-loss harvesting and awareness of IRS considerations such as constructive sale rules
- Collaborate with internal team members on portfolio construction, risk analysis, and investment implementation
- Provide ad-hoc client support and participate in client discussions as needed
- Maintain strong controls, accuracy, and adherence to internal investment and compliance processes
- 5+ years of experience in portfolio management, trading, or investment management within equity markets
- Strong equity market expertise with direct portfolio construction experience
- Hands-on experience executing options strategies (must be real-world experience, not theoretical)
- Strong understanding of portfolio risk management across security, sector, and portfolio levels
- Experience managing or working with concentrated equity positions
- Ability to independently evaluate and execute trades with strong judgment
- Working knowledge of tax-aware investing and tax-loss harvesting strategies
- Comfortable operating in a lean environment with limited trading desk support
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and execution accuracy
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within a small investment team
- Experience with structured options strategies (collars, spreads, protective structures, etc.)
- SMA platform or tax-managed portfolio experience
- Background in asset management, hedge funds, RIAs, family offices, or institutional PM environments
- Exposure to IRS considerations such as constructive sale rules and derivative tax treatment
- CFA designation or progress toward CFA
- Experience in hybrid PM/trader roles with active execution responsibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field required
- CFA or advanced degree preferred but not required
