Job Description

Title: Planning Engineer II
Duration: 1 year
Location: Edmonton or Calgary
Schedule : Hybrid (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)
 
Description:
Senior execution-focused engineering role supporting a large brownfield pipeline and facilities portfolio. Responsible for advancing mechanical, electrical, and civil projects by identifying risks, unlocking opportunities, and aligning cross-functional stakeholders to accelerate execution.
 
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Drive execution readiness across a multi-year project portfolio
  • Identify risks/opportunities and optimize schedules
  • Advance in-year capital execution and project timelines
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Construction, Operations, Supply Chain, and Sponsors
  • Align procurement, materials, and execution plans
  • Maintain project planning data and “Golden Project List”
  • Develop GIS-based site layout plans
  • Act as a central coordination point across stakeholders
  • Travel up to 15%
Must-Have Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related)
  • Eligible for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration
  • 8+ years of experience in pipeline or facilities project execution with accountability for scope, schedule, or outcomes
  • Strong understanding of brownfield execution (energized electrical systems or pressurized pipelines)
  • Hands-on experience working with Project Management, Project Controls, Scheduling, Construction, Operations, Supply Chain, and Sponsors
  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and align multiple stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder management and execution-driven mindset
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and fast-paced environments
  • Willingness to travel and engage cross-functional teams (up to 15%)
Nice-To-Have:
  • Business-related degree or experience in Asset Management, Capital Planning, or Portfolio Optimization
  • PMP certification or formal project management training
  • Field engineering, construction management, or inspection experience
  • Pipeline intervention experience (e.g., Stopples, Biseps, Line Stops, hot taps)
  • Strong supplier network for electrical components (switchgear, power transformers)
  • Experience with value-based or asset-focused investment decision frameworks
