Job Title: Project Controls Specialist – Scheduler / Cost Controller
Duration: 1 year with a potential for extension
Location: Chatham ON, N7M 5M1
Hybrid Model: In-Office (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday) Remote (Wednesday & Friday)
Role Purpose:
The Project Controls Specialist (Scheduler / Cost Controller) is responsible for providing integrated schedule and cost control support to capital projects, in alignment with the Capital Development initiative to strengthen Project Governance and Control for Capital Planning and Execution.
This role ensures projects are planned, monitored, and controlled effectively with respect to schedule, cost, and forecast, while reducing administrative burden on Project Managers and enabling them to focus on project leadership and safe execution in the field.
Key Accountabilities:
Scheduling & Project Planning
• Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules in support of capital execution
• Monitor schedule performance and identify risks, delays, and mitigation strategies
• Support integration of schedule logic with cost and forecast information
• Provide schedule insights to support timely and efficient project execution
• Support multi project environments where Project Managers oversee capital projects
Cost Control & Financial Governance
• Prepare and maintain project forecasts
• Support monthly accruals and financial close activities
• Perform contractor billing reviews and validation
• Track and manage Change Orders and cost impacts
• Create, track, and reconcile Purchase Orders (POs)
• Support cost tracking and reporting systems (e.g., Maximo)
• Participate in and support contractor cost control meetings
Project Governance & Controls
• Provide integrated schedule and cost visibility to support informed decision making
• Strengthen alignment between project progress, spend, and forecast
• Identify cost, schedule variances, and escalate risks proactively
• Support auditability, transparency, and consistency across projects
• Contribute to continuous improvement of project controls processes and tools
Project Manager Support
• Remove administrative and transactional cost control activities from Project Managers
• Enable PMs to focus on:
o Project leadership and decision making
o Stakeholder and contractor management
o Safe execution in the field
• Act as a key project controls partner to the PM team
Required Qualifications & Experience:
• Experience in project scheduling, cost control, or project controls within capital projects
• Strong understanding of forecasting, accruals, and budget management
• Experience working in multi project environments
• Proficiency with scheduling and cost tracking tools (e.g., Primavera, Excel based tools, Maximo)
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Finance, and Contractors
