Instructional Designer (Workday Learning)
Estimated duration: 1 year
Schedule: Mon–Fri; 8AM–5PM (EST)
Location: Remote
Mon–Fri; OT: No; Hours: 8AM–5PM (EST)
Top must-have skills / requirements: Learning background; Articulate knowledge; MS Office; comfortable using MS Teams
Great vs. average candidate: Experience creating learning assets (job aids, elearning) for large implementations of Workday; Intermediate to advanced skillset with software; and create end to end elearning using ADDIE
Industry specific: No (any industry is fine)
Main day-to-day responsibilities:
• Design course material for online learning
• Performs analysis activities including task & audience analyses, usability sessions, and performance/skill gap research
• Designs and develops course materials for online learning, instructor-led (virtual, in-person and hybrid), performance support and media-based solutions
• Parses complex content and concepts into easier-to-understand sections
• Distributes draft course materials, solicits feedback, revises accordingly
Main interactions: Program team members, business analysts, change consultants, cross functional process owners and other learning professionals within Progressive
Work style: Mostly independent work
Performance measured by: Observation; review of materials
Interview process: 1 round of video interview
POSITION SUMMARY:
This lead level position manages/directs multiple large and complex design and development projects from initiation to closure by following defined instructional design standards and using aligned design and development tools to design, develop, and measure moderate to complex courses to support learning initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Serves as departmental representative for enterprise-wide instructional design initiatives.
- Performs task analyses with subject matter experts (SMEs) and business leaders to identify course objectives, content, requirements, and delivery.
- Develops design documents, project timelines and action/communication and evaluation plans.
- Obtains appropriate resources (e.g., SMEs and IT)
- Serves as a mentor/coach to Instructional Designers, providing feedback and consultation for content development.
- Provides coaching, mentoring and feedback to lower level ID's.
- Proactively initiates projects to streamline learning.
- Defines course objectives or goals, designs appropriate classroom or online learning solutions (formal or informal, classroom or online, etc.) and identifies the best delivery method for the defined learning need.
- Parses complex content and concepts into easier to understand sections.
- Develops appropriate review/test questions and exercises to validate participant understanding of course content.
- Distributes draft course materials and solicits feedback; revises materials accordingly.
- Evaluates effectiveness of training by assessing scores, costs, and post-class performance.
- Arranges, designs, implements, and observes usability sessions.
- Conducts research to identify performance and skill gaps.
- Develops and conducts surveys to evaluate effectiveness of training materials.
- Determines resources needed to implement learning solutions.
- Assesses, measures, and develops programs to enhance employee performance.
- Researches, tests, and implements technology for new learning solutions.
- Assists in the development of a long term maintenance strategy to handle the changing nature of the course materials over time.
- Develops and observes pilot classes and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Identifies and maintains best practices, and departmental procedures for content implementation.
- Develops and observes classroom courses and train-the-trainer programs, and makes recommendations for improvement and provides feedback to trainers.
- Extra hours may be required during business peaks or to meet deadlines.
- Occasional travel required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Education and/or experiences listed below are the minimum requirements for job entry.
- Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of experience in instructional design/development, teaching/training delivery, web design or responsibilities that involve performance improvement initiatives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Knowledge, skills/abilities listed below are the requirements needed to be proficient in the job.
- Fully proficient in multiple delivery channels (including classroom and online) and instructional design methods.
- Ability to define learning needs and develop courses that can be linked to business results.
- Demonstrated technical expertise with the training tools used by the training department.
- Excellent ability to influence/negotiate and consult with requestors and stakeholders.
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills
- Demonstrated excellent problem solving and decision making skills
- Excellent PC skills with a strong working knowledge of associated software programs, such as flow charting, presentation, e-learning, and computer-based testing programs.
- Proven ability to manage multiple large/complex projects.
- Proven ability to coach and develop others.
- Works independently and with minimal to no supervision.

- Typical office environment requiring the use of typical office equipment (e.g., computers, phones, etc.). If working in an Emerging Workspace, or similar working arrangement, lifting of laptop equipment, files and/or personal belongings weighing 10 lbs. or less is required.
