Job Description

Title: Media Relations Program/Project Manager
Location: Seattle, WA or Arlington, VA - Onsite
Duration: 7 months

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Media Relations Program/Project Manager to support a high-visibility communications team responsible for managing inbound press inquiries and external messaging.

This role operates in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong judgment, excellent writing skills, and the ability to respond quickly to sensitive and high-impact topics. You’ll work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely, and strategic communication with media outlets.

What You’ll Do

• Draft clear, concise, and high-quality responses to media inquiries
• Engage directly with reporters and media contacts
• Conduct research to support accurate and informed communications
• Partner with internal teams to gather inputs and align on messaging
• Manage a high volume of inbound requests and communications
• Support development of messaging, Q&A documents, and press materials
• Utilize tools (including AI where applicable) to enhance efficiency and output

Day-to-Day Breakdown

• 40% Research + response development
• 20% Managing inbound/internal communications
• 20% Stakeholder meetings and alignment
• 20% Operational tasks (inbox management, tools, team coordination)

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in media relations, communications, or journalism
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Experience managing press inquiries and external communications
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field
• Experience handling sensitive or high-profile communications
• Familiarity with AI tools for writing or research support
• Experience in large, complex, or fast-paced organizations
