Job Description

Position Title: Sr Tax Analyst
Work Location: Salt Lake City, UT 84104 OR Cambridge, MA, Durham (NC), Hazelwood (MO), and Lombard (IL)
Assignment Duration: 6 months
Work Arrangement: 50 % Onsite at any of the listed sites

Position Summary: This integral role will provide support for all income and franchise tax-related issues and procedures of the U.S. consolidated group, including federal, state, and local compliance and financial reporting. This role will be cross-functional with an emphasis on state and local reporting and compliance.

Background & Context: This individual is expected to work in a cross-functional manner with the broader finance team as business partners. Additionally, this individual will liaise with 3rd party providers and auditors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing provisional tax computations and federal taxable income calculations, utilizing tools such as ONESOURCE, Alteryx, and Power Query, while analyzing and reconciling tax-related general ledger accounts for accuracy.
  • Prepare and organize audit documentation, track tax notices, and collaborate with the Income Tax Management Team on response letters and payments to resolve audits and compliance issues.
  • Conduct tax research on legislative changes to support federal compliance and assist with annual federal income tax filings using third-party software.
  • Develop and optimize Alteryx workflows and Power Query processes to enhance tax process efficiency, while identifying automation opportunities and contributing to the creation of a tax database using Snowflake, SQL, and Python.
  • Manage customer communications regarding exemption certificates, track inquiries, and ensure compliance with indirect tax guidelines while processing and verifying exemption certificates.
  • Preparation of federal and state quarterly provision support: a. Prepare supporting federal and state workpapers and related journal entries leveraging ONESOURCE Tax Provision and ONESOURCE Workpapers. b. Prepare federal and state income tax balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Execute notice and audit resolution process: a. Process and track notices received, communicate to Direct Tax Manager. b. Determine and execute required responses. c. Proactively interact with jurisdictions for resolution.
  • Preparation of state/local income and franchise tax computations. a. Prepare state and local income and franchise tax supporting workpapers. b. Liaise with 3rd party for preparation and review of return filings. c. Prepare quarterly estimated / annual extension payment calculations.
  • Preparation of federal taxable income computations. a. Prepare federal taxable income supporting workpapers. b. Liaise with 3rd party for preparation and review of return filings. c. Prepare quarterly estimated / annual extension payment calculations.
  • Support of special projects and research. a. Leverage tax research software to analyze legislative changes and support compliance execution related to changes at Federal, State, and Local levels. b. Preparation of special analyses in support of mergers and acquisitions and strategic tax planning. c. Maintain workpapers supporting state conformity based on ongoing legislative updates.
  • Process improvement leveraging tax technology. a. Identify opportunities requiring process improvement/ automation. b. Develop new and maintain existing Alteryx workflows. c. Enhance workpapers and processes utilizing advanced and future tools including Power Query, Power Automate, CoPilot and others.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor degree required Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Education Substitution: In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 4 years of additional relevant experience, defined below, will be accepted.
  • 2+ years of professional related experience with degree Public accounting or corporate tax; State & Local Tax preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred but not required.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • State and local tax experience preferred.
  • Preferred software expertise: Onesource Tax Provision, Alteryx, MS Power Query, Onesource Income Tax, SAP.

  • Managing Work Processes Driving continuous improvement by evaluating processes and implementing necessary changes.
  • Skilled in MS Office tools to include but not limited to Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel Advanced: demonstrates deep knowledge; manages complex tasks and integrates multiple tools independently.
  • Federal and state income tax knowledge.
  • Tax research and communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skill level: Power Query, Pivot Tables.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands (If Applicable): Ability to remain in stationary position, either sitting or standing, for prolonged periods. Yes
Domestic travel required 5% of time.  Total 5%.
