Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer II (Advanced Manufacturing Engineer – L5)
Location: North Reading, MA
Duration: 4 Months (Potential extension/conversion)
 
Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to support client in transitioning innovative robotics and mechatronic products from design to high-volume production. This role focuses on manufacturability, supplier quality, and scaling production systems globally.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Apply DFX (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly/Test) principles
  • Transition robotics/mechatronic products from design to production
  • Develop and qualify suppliers and manage product lifecycle changes
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolve supplier quality issues
  • Design and implement manufacturing test solutions
  • Support manufacturing processes such as:
    • Gearbox assembly
    • Motor integration (stators/rotors)
  • Collaborate with global engineering, quality, and supply chain teams
  • Drive continuous improvement using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
 
Typical Day
  • Review product designs and provide manufacturability feedback
  • Conduct supplier assessments and capability evaluations
  • Perform failure analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Develop test fixtures and validation processes
  • Work with global teams on New Product Introduction (NPI)
 
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience with DFX, FMEA, and NPI
  • Experience with manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, sheet metal, electronics assembly)
  • Strong root cause analysis & troubleshooting skills
  • Experience managing suppliers / contract manufacturers
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, SPC
  • Proficiency with CAD and technical drawings
  • Strong communication skills
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
  • Experience with robotics or electromechanical systems
  • Experience with test engineering & automation
  • Knowledge of FMEA, 8D, RCA methodologies
  • Exposure to Industry 4.0 / smart manufacturing
  • Global manufacturing experience
  • Strong project/program management skills
 
Top 3 Must-Have Skills
  1. Manufacturing/Commodity expertise (robotics/mechanical components preferred)
  2. PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) experience
  3. Project Management
