Job Description

Title: Business Data Analyst
Ideal Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 6 months with possible extension
Working Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (7.5 hours/day plus lunch)
Location: Toronto, ON (Remote candidates will be accepted)
Interview Process: Interviews will be conducted via Teams (camera on).
 

Main Responsibility: Responsible for mining and curating data based on various business needs.

Job Summary
We are seeking for a self-directed, curious, and analytical professional who has the necessary skills to support the development of a data platform to meet business needs. This role requires a strong ability to research the data, design data mappings, and collaborate with development teams to implement robust data solutions. The ideal candidate will possess advanced SQL and data mining skills to mine and research data warehouses to identify relevant data sources.

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Specialization in Business, Engineering, Science, or Math is desirable.
  • 5 to 7 years experience.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Understand various business reporting perspectives and determine the data required to support them.
  • Translate high-level concepts into actionable requirements, data analysis, and detailed data maps.
  • Prepare documentation and collaborate with development teams to implement new data platforms.
  • Proficiency querying relational databases. Perform advanced SQL queries and data profiling to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Experience developing source-to-target mapping and transformation specifications.
  • Ensure data quality, compliance, and proper handling of sensitive data, including data masking.
  • Provide testing support and maintain knowledge repositories for data processes. Track issues and drive remediation efforts.
  • Work effectively with flexible requirements and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data solutions. Anticipate business questions and proactively design reporting solutions.
  • Strong analytical curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-framing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience with modern data platforms and ETL tools.
  • Exposure to data governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Understanding of business intelligence and reporting tools.

 
Team Information
  • Reason for Request: Need someone to handle data analysis and research based on the business needs.
  • Team's Function: Part of Data Analytics Center of Excellence group. Responsible for curating data based on various business needs.
  • Team Culture: Collaborative development team. This role will have self-directed work.
  • Team Size: About 15
  • Management Responsibilities: This role will NOT be managing anyone on the team or leading the team.
