Job Description

Job Title: Atlassian Admin
Location: Remote
Duration: 12+ Months

 

Position Overview

  • 1-year contract assignment.
  • Limited near-term FTE conversion (2026 conversions already allocated to current contractors).
    • Long-term conversion potential: 2027–2028.
  • Fully remote role; team is spread across the U.S.
  • Work hours: 9 AM – 4 PM (local time zone).
  • Minimal travel: 1–2 optional departmental events per year.
  • Two main role tracks:
    • Special Projects (Jack-of-all-trades, problem-solver heavy)
    • Atlassian-focused (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket admin)
  • Reason for opening: team bandwidth expansion due to large increases in engineering hires.

Responsibilities

General

  • Work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Communicate constantly via Slack, Teams, Microsoft Suite, SharePoint, ShareFile.
  • Handle requests from software/hardware engineering teams.
  • Support ~40 administered platforms (out of 80 managed tools).

Special Projects Role

  • Highly dynamic, ad-hoc problem-solving role.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues that other teams cannot fix.
  • Frequent work with:
    • JumpCloud
    • Bitbucket
    • AWS-related tasks
  • No predictable day-to-day—tasks vary based on incoming issues.
  • Ideal for strong troubleshooters with programming familiarity.

Atlassian Role

  • Handle Jira/JSM/Confluence/Bitbucket administration.
  • Resolve high volume of tickets (team handled ~7,300 issues YTD).
  • Tasks include:
    • Access requests
    • Jira/Confluence space creation
    • Workflows, APIs, advanced configurations
    • Enterprise-level Atlassian administration
  • Tickets triaged daily by Ticket Managers to route simple vs complex work.

Must-Have Skills

For Both Roles

  • 4-year degree OR 5+ years of direct IT experience.
  • Strong communication and team collaboration.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.

Technical (common):

  • Atlassian exposure (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
  • AWS familiarity.

Special Projects

  • Significant troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience with:
    • JumpCloud (major daily use)
    • Bitbucket
  • Programming familiarity (any language) to support problem-solving mindset.

Atlassian Role

  • Jira, JSM, Confluence administration.
  • Ability to configure, administer, build workflows, APIs, etc.
  • Experience handling large ticket volumes.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with:
    • CTERA
    • SharePoint
    • Airtable
  • Okta or AD experience (similar concepts to JumpCloud).
  • AWS deeper experience (EC2, S3, Route53, etc.).
  • Knowledge of enterprise-scale Atlassian environments.
  • Healthcare/medical device/pharma familiarity (not required but helpful).

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, especially for long-term FTE opportunities.
  • OR 5+ years of equivalent IT experience.

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years in IT (if no bachelor’s degree).
  • Relevant experience in:
    • Atlassian platforms
    • AWS
    • JumpCloud / Okta / AD
    • Bitbucket
    • Troubleshooting & problem-solving roles

Interview Pocess

  • 2 rounds:
    • Short casual 10–15 min call with hiring manager.
    • 30–45 min video interview with team members.
