Job Description

Title: Principal Propulsion Engineer
Type: Permanent/Direct-Hire
Location: Roswell, GA

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Principal Propulsion Engineer to join our Engineering Group in Roswell, GA. This senior-level position is responsible for technical execution of the design and development of advanced gas turbine engine systems and components to support Client’s strategic growth initiatives. You will work in close cooperation with members of the Engineering Group and other Aerospace Divisions. As a technical focal point within the organization, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Aerospace’s propulsion technology and ensuring that projects are completed with the highest level of technical accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership of large-scale propulsion-related development initiatives; ensuring that requirements are established and met in accordance with industry and regulatory standards
  • Compile clearly defined trade studies to inform design path down-selection
  • Perform detailed design of turbomachinery components and systems to ensure sufficient design margin, and manufacturability to support high-volume production
  • Perform detailed structural and aerodynamic analyses to support component design and development or investigations into service-revealed difficulties 
  • Develop, maintain, and improve engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports for manufacturing and assembly of tight tolerance turbomachinery
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to team members to assure technical accuracy and quality of Engineering work product is achieved and that the proper documentation is generated in accordance with engineering best practice
  • Develop and execute test plans for propulsion systems for the purposes of investigation, new component qualification, process validation, or optimization
  • Assist Engineering Leadership in evaluating and establishing the company’s New Product Introduction (NPI) Processes, and Technology Roadmap to assure Client's Aerospace remains at the forefront of gas turbine propulsion systems 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering discipline (Master’s or PhD preferred).
  • 10+ years of industry experience with Gas Turbines, with demonstrated execution of turbomachinery design projects from conceptual design phase through validation testing
  • Strong expertise in CAD software, and engineering analysis tools (FEA, CFD, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in accordance with ASME Standards
  • Demonstrated experience in gas turbine engine technology and mastery of associated physical sciences – structural design, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, materials sciences
  • Expert understanding of aerospace manufacturing techniques – brazing, welding, additive manufacturing, machining, casting, forging, etc.
  • Exceptional Microsoft Office familiarity and presentation skills – Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word, Teams, etc.
  • High-energy and passionate team player who is excited about solving complex, high-impact problems, and embraces a culture of trust, free-thought, and collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and familiarity with defense industry standards and designing propulsion systems for aerospace and defense platforms (eg. MIL-STD)
  • Expertise in advanced materials utilized in high-performance gas turbine engines
  • Experience with PTC PLM Ecosystem products (Windchill and Creo) and ANSYS Engineering Analysis tools (Mechanical, Fluent, CFX) 
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) in high-volume production environments

Requirements and Work Environment

  • Onsite in Roswell, GA.
  • Minimal travel (<15%) required, including customer and supplier site visits.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office and engineering lab setting, with occasional exposure to manufacturing and testing environments.
  • Due to the nature of Client's Aerospace’s business as a defense contractor, this position is limited to U.S. citizens, as defined under applicable federal regulations.
