Job Summary:
- In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project.
- You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries.
- You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards.
- This position is for a Smart Plant S3 D Designer/Engineer who will prepare 3D designs associated with DOD and USAF projects.
- The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
- This role will specifically support the USAF Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.
- The GBSD program is the weapon system replacement for the Minuteman III missile systems.
- Our team is supporting Northrop Grumman and the USAF’s nuclear deterrence mission to modernize this ground-based leg of the nuclear triad.
- This position is responsible for direct production of design work by Bechtel as well as for coordinating the scope and integration of work. #LI-SNH
Major Responsibilities:
- Building layout in Smart Plant S3D model environment.
- Modeling of piping, HVAC, and equipment in the 3D model environment.
- Preparation of drawings/documents for floor plans. Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines.
- Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc.
- Perform coordination review of specifications and other documents prepared by others.
- Candidate should possess a knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and piping codes. Hands-on experience using Smart Plant S3D and drawing generation.
- Knowledge & application of International Building Code, ASME B31.3 for piping, plumbing codes, and ASHRAE standards.
- Leads or administers work of PD&P?designers and drafters for a business line technology to include?the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and?construction drawings.?
- Develops designs for complete and complex PD&P?engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road?design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum?supervision from which detailed scale models and/or?construction drawings are completed.?
- Assists in constructing detailed scale models.?
- Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material?requisitions and bid evaluations?.
- Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved?PD&P design standards to provide quality design,?reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy?. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all?applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Participates in constructability reviews?.
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews design work within a small-size PD&P?design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global?business unit?.
- Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope?including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing?. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes,?regulations, and standards.
- Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of PD&P?engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.?
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper?management?.
- Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators)?.
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of PD&P design estimates and work plan in?accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and?performance accordingly.?
Education and Experience Requirements:
Level 1
- AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 7-8 years of experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
- AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 10-12 years of experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Hands-on experience using Smart Plant S3D.
- US Citizenship required (No Green Cards or TA Visas).
- Must be able to pass the requirements to receive a secret clearance.
- Previous company project experience. Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, or USAF experience.
