Job Description

Position Title: Mental Health Technician
Work Location: Adair, Iowa, USA
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks
Work Schedule: overnights 6:30p-7a. Rotating weekends 36 hrs/week.
Position Summary: This facility is a 50-bed inpatient substance abuse treatment facility that serves the adult (over 18) population.

Background & Context:

  • They have 20 female beds and 30 male beds.
  • They staff 1 nurse on the night shift.
  • They have both voluntary and court ordered patients, but they are all considered voluntary, and the doors are not locked.
  • There are some patients that are court ordered to come from jail.
  • This is a no restraint facility.
  • The dress code is scrubs.
  • There is onsite parking.
  • The facility does not have security onsite.
  • Visitors days are only on Sundays from 1300-1600.
  • All visitors are pre-approved by the clients counselor.
  • They sign in, no cell phones, no outside food or drink.
  • No floating expectations.
  • Previous psych experience preferred but not required.
  • Candidates who have experience working in a detox or PSYCH setting are preferred.

?Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for clients.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and monitor client behavior.
  • Assist with client supervision, belongings, and contraband checks.
  • Support clients in achieving treatment goals through engagement and group facilitation.
  • Document observations and client interactions accurately and timely.
  • Apply de-escalation techniques and report significant changes to nursing staff.
  • Assist with unit tasks including admissions, discharges, and incident reporting.
  • Facilitate or support recreational and therapeutic activities.
  • Provide orientation for new clients and encourage program participation.
  • Ensure safety during activities and adapt them to meet client needs.

Qualification & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with the facilitys population preferred.
  • Familiarity with psychiatric and dual diagnosis conditions and treatment approaches is a plus.
  • CPR and de-escalation certification required (training provided upon hire).
  • First aid certification may be required per state or facility guidelines.
