Job Description

Job Title: Float Phlebotomist I
Location: 26850 providence Parkway, Suite 160, Novi, MI 48374; 47601 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI 48374; 44000 W 12 Mile Rd, Suite 110, Novi, MI 48377, and 37595 7 Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48152

(A schedule will be created, but there is a good possibility that mid-day or beginning of day, the worker will be requested to move to a different site as listed above. If so, time will be compensated for travel. Resource must have their own mode of transportation)
Duration: 3-4 months 
Shift: Varies from 7am-5:30pm, M-F every other Saturday 7am-1pm
Faculty: PSC

Vaccine requirements:  TB, MMR, TDAP, Flu
Interview Mode: Video conference.


Req: Pedi and geri experience needed.

Description:

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities: 
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. 
Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. 
Properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. 
Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. 
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. 
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. 
Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. 
Package specimens for transport. 
Stores specimen samples according to the required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen. 
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. 
Attend annual department trainings. 
Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications: 
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states. 
Minimum of 1 year work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting. 
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. 
High School Diploma or GED
