Job Title: Power BI Developer
Location: 222 Jarvis St Toronto or 33 King St W Oshawa (Hybrid - - Candidate MUST work 3 days onsite and 2 days remote)
Duration: 8 months with possible extension
Job Description
 
Must haves:
  • Ability to create visual representations of data using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms to createdashboards and reports that effectively communicate insights. 
  • Experience with low code platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform
  • Experience developing and implementing business intelligence solutions such as Microsoft Power BI.
  • Experience with developing data extraction, transformation, and load programs (daily and initial load) functionality on a wide-range of data repositories (relational and multi- dimensional data stores)
  • Experience developing test cases and perform QA testing on business intelligence solutions.
  • Effective in making presentations and conducting product/solution demonstrations
Responsibilities:
  • Support clients’ business information needs by implementing and maintaining robust Business Intelligence (BI) software solutions.
  • Develop and maintain custom query applications to analyze key business data and enable guided analysis, drill-down capabilities, and scheduled reports with alert/notification functionalities (e.g., opportunity and key-trend alerts).
  • Provide clients with strategic options and tools for data management that support quantitative analysis, performance tracking, and alignment of operational activities with business objectives.

General Skills:
  • Proficient in analyzing source system data to identify quality issues such as missing values, duplication, and invalid entries.
  • Skilled in designing feedback mechanisms to correct data inconsistencies at the source level.
  • Experienced in developing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) programs for both initial and daily loads across diverse data repositories, including relational and multidimensional data stores.
  • Strong capabilities in designing and maintaining ETL job schedules and dependency logic.
  • Adept at implementing data monitoring and error notification processes to ensure accuracy and timely updates.
  • Experience in automating data extraction, cleansing, and loading scripts.
  • Competent in generating both scheduled and ad-hoc analytical reports and research models.
  • Proven analytical and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Experienced in process decomposition, business process re-engineering, and working with complex data models using UML.
  • Familiar with software development tools and business re-engineering platforms.
  • Proficient in creating enterprise architecture deliverables, including business, logical, and physical models, following industry-standard methodologies.

Desirable Skills:
  • Knowledge in developing advanced data analysis applications.
  • Understanding of Information Management principles, concepts, policies, and best practices.
  • Ability to provide expert advice on process and information model integration to identify and remove redundant business processes.
  • Hands-on experience developing interface specifications between BI systems and external applications.
  • Proficient in data modeling tools such as PowerDesigner and Microsoft Visio (conceptual, logical, and physical models).
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and associated regulations.
 
8-10 Years in the Following:
 
Requirement 1 (35%) – Technical Knowledge:
  • Experience with information technologies such as servers, storage, networks, operating systems, database technologies, security technologies (e.g., authentication), development tools and programming languages.
  • Ability to create visual representations of data using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms to create dashboards and reports that effectively communicate insights. 
  • Experience with low code platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform
  • Experience developing and implementing business intelligence solutions such as Microsoft Power BI.
  • Experience with SQL and No SQL database technologies.
  • Experience with developing data extraction, transformation, and load programs (daily and initial load) functionality on a wide-range of data repositories (relational and multi- dimensional data stores)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and related regulations and standards
Requirement 2 (20%) – Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Familiar with industry best practices, policies, and strategies for deployment of business intelligence solutions.
  • Experience assessing information and system needs of clients, and assist in the development of improved, cost-effective solutions.
  • Experience designing and developing alternatives based on business/client needs and provide recommendations on solutions.
  • Experience developing test cases and perform QA testing on business intelligence solutions.
Requirement 3 (20%) – Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
  • Lead discussions on systems development options and technical processes to project teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective in making presentations and conducting product/solution demonstrations.
  • Work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Requirement 4 (25%) – Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency using various office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio to develop documents and presentations.
  • Experience using Microsoft Power Platform tools such as Power Automate and Power BI.
  • Knowledge and experience using shared folders and working with collaborations tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
  • Experience using Software Development tools.
