Senior Firewall Network Engineer
Fulltime Role
Location: Richmond Virginia
Candidate Must Haves:
*Candidate must be an expert in data center core networking to the ability that they can teach/mentor a junior network engineer..
Candidate Nice to Have:
* The ACI requirement is now a nice to have and no longer a specific requirement.
*SDWAN experience
*Prisma experience
Required Education, Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years networking experience
- Cisco certifications or other Networking certifications
- On hand technical knowledge or networking systems, protocols, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN technologies
- Experienced with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Experience working in an enterprise switched and routed environment
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware:
Qualifications:
Six (6) or more years experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls is required, preferably in the healthcare industry. PCNSE certification preferred.
Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent demonstrated knowledge is required.
Two (2) or more years of team leadership preferred.
Proficiency in recording and interpreting TCP/IP packet captures is required.
Relevant Microsoft certifications
Skills in automation languages are a plus: python, java, perl, etc
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities Without restricting the generality of this job description, the Senior Firewall Network Engineer shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned including but not restricted to, the following:
The Senior Firewall Network Engineer is responsible for implementing and overseeing firewall policies based on input from the Information Security Team. This role acts as a liaison between Information Security and Networking teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Key responsibilities include:
Collaborating with the Project Management Office and application system owners to guide system designers on firewall requirements and document system communication flows affecting firewall configurations.
Advising business partners on B2B VPN requirements and documenting VPN configurations and communication flows.
Maintaining up-to-date system communication design documents for all systems traversing firewalls.
Assisting other teams in troubleshooting systems by analyzing firewall logs and interpreting TCP/IP packet captures.
Ensuring all firewall appliances are current with OS versions, anti-virus signatures, applications, threat databases, Wildfire, and associated licenses.
Staying informed about emerging firewall technologies, evaluating new features, and providing recommendations to IT management.
Performing firewall hardware break/fix replacements and upgrades as needed.
Monitoring Service Desk incident and request tickets, taking ownership of or delegating firewall issues to appropriate personnel.
Participating as an active member of the Technical Review Board and Change Advisory Board for system change management.
Initiating effective communication with all Information Technology areas to ensure information is disseminated effectively for planning, decision-making, and other management needs.
Maintaining clear communication and effective relations with all health system departments, users, and user groups.
Conduct research on firewall network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts
Establish connectivity and uptime service level agreements
Be knowledgeable about and supportive of Administrative Procedures and directives
Perform other duties as may be required of assigned by the Manager of Information Systems
Remote/Onsite:
Hybrid schedule for initial onboarding and training (typically around 3 months)- manager discussion for hybrid or remote opportunity afterwards. On Call Schedule once every 12 weeks.
. Interview Process: 3 rounds- Round 1 with manager virtual, Round 2 with panel (onsite is preferred), and final round director assessment
