Title: Research Associate II Duration:12 Months Location: Tucson, AZ 85755
Job Resposibilties:
Assists cross-disciplinary early research and development teams in the laboratory.
Responsible for conducting research and early development laboratory experimentation and other scientific activities to support projects.
Maintains laboratory instruments and equipment on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis.
Prepares and manages bulk reagent inventory for assigned laboratories.
Orders and stocks laboratory supplies and equipment; tracks inventory and dates.
Performs onsite support of various lab equipment including Benchmark auto-stainers as well as maintains calibration records and organizes repairs for all area lab equipment.
Coordinates incoming/outgoing stained slide and/or reagent shipments. Works with Facilities, Safety, Health and Environmental and the Lab Management Team to facilitate lab improvements.
Assists with activities such as slide rundown, coverslipping and scanning slides using digital slide scanners.
May support several different functional lab spaces and groups.
Participates in cell culture experiments and maintains live cell cultures.
There may be additional opportunities to assist with light programming and/or gain experience with hardware prototyping.
Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses.
Presents and discusses results of experiments within department and project team.
Follows company policies and procedures for GMP, GLP, Design Control and others as appropriate.
Maintains complete and accurate laboratory documentation and electronic files. May act as principal investigator in conducting own experiments.
Performs daily, monthly and quarterly instrument and equipment maintenance and cleaning tasks.
Performs routine laboratory inspections according to protocol
Monitors and prepares bulk reagents
Scans slides on digital slide scanning equipment according to detailed instructions
Assists with cell culture facilities and cell culture experiments according to guidance from scientists
Troubleshoots minor equipment malfunctions by performing operational tests.
Monitors and maintains usage logs for all equipment and instruments.
Monitors, schedules and delivers portable instruments for calibration and maintains necessary documentation.
Monitors and completes routine maintenance on Thermal equipment (refrigerators, freezers, incubators, etc.).
Coordinates equipment preventative maintenance, repairs and validations with third party vendors.
Prepares and schedules incoming and outgoing stained slide and/or reagent shipments.
Maintains stock room and monitor lab supply inventory.
May perform staining runs on BenchMark instruments
Participates in Lab Manager Meetings and assists with laboratory improvement projects and other duties as assigned by management.
Education Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Science
Graduate level college coursework in a relevant field
2 years Relevant lab experience
Knows basic and a range of specialized laboratory techniques.
Capable with searching scientific literature to gain information about specific topics.
Skilled with use of word processing, spreadsheets, graphical and presentation software applications.
Experience operating Ventana instruments.
This position requires a high degree of organizational and communication skills, self motivated.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail in written instructions and documentation.
Ability to multitask and prioritize work.
Ability to use hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, nut-drivers and various other hand tools.
Ability to use common laboratory equipment such as pipettes, pH meters, precision weight scales, and pressure meters.
Experience with aseptic technique and cell culture
Knowledge of and skill in inventory management.
Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
